Taking advantage of my Industry Discount (ID) privilege as an airline employee, I had the opportunity to experience Japan Airlines’ Economy Class on a staff ticket for a short-haul international flight from Guangzhou to Tokyo Haneda. This 4-hour evening sector, operated by a Boeing 787-8, offered a unique chance to enjoy JAL’s long-haul configured aircraft and renowned hospitality on a relatively short regional route.

C O N C L U S I O N:

From the smooth check-in at Guangzhou to the spacious emergency exit seat with tons of legroom, this Japan Airlines flight exceeded expectations. The large, responsive IFE screen, tasty Japanese bento, and standout chilled umeshu made the journey even more enjoyable. Best of all, the crew’s warm, attentive service truly set the tone. A fantastic first experience with JAL—highly recommended if you get the chance.
